Angle grinder

I've got a Makita angle grinder, the spindle size is 1/2". I want to use it with some polishing pads (it has a low speed setting). All the hook and loop pads seem to be m14. For example...

It says its compatible with 'most brands' of angle grinder. But half an inch is equal to 12.7mm, not 14mm??

Am I missing something here?

Early angle grinders were actually 4" diameter, disc size, with a smaller thread than the modern type which has 4/12" discs and a 14mm thread.
Converters may be available, but I doubt it!
If you are intending to buff car paintwork, keep the speed very slow.
