Is this new found stupidity a result of folk becoming more gullible or just simply a case of being too heavily reliant upon what they read on media platforms? The Trump era has exposed a set of people that can not under any circumstances, distinguish the truth and are only too willing to seek out and believe the outrageous.

It's almost all social media use. The people who distrust vaccines or refuse the believe in the concept of science are almost all heavy Social media junkies.

Bang on IT. Weirdos have always been there. Now they have a platform to spread rubbish around the world instantly.

How many times have you questioned someone when coming up with a complete rubbish & they reply that it’s on the internet or they are a leading doctor? 95% of the time I reckon.

    Fair point.

I'm of the mind that the ability to convince folk of the unbelievable has become a lot simpler and far more widespread, thanks to the reach of the internet and the advent of the smart phone. Trump was able to have his very own riot - not just because of his damning speech - but because he was able to assemble such a large audience prior.

Mind you - it didn't work for Farage and his Northern march on London.....

Well there's the thing. The internet is a double edged sword. I have right wing and centrist news outlets saved on my PC and phone. I never just look at one viewpoint of a story. It's fairly easy to check the veracity of any story. Those that seek out only one side are the ones bereft of knowledge.
