Any ex smokers? UPDATE

Well done Bahco; hang on in there

Our guru told us the number 3 was the big enemy and we would feel it worse at 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months (give or take)

Think he was right. You're through the first one so just keep going

You will be surprised how much more "puff" you have walking up hills etc

I gave up just over 2 years ago on my 30th birthday having smoked for more than half my life at that point. I used to smoke up to 40 a day depending what I was doing. I got together with the (now) wife who is a doctor which made a massive difference. You have to want to give up and if you truely do, then you'll manage. I avoided the pub for 10 days after stopping. I found the first 7 days damn hard and was close to breaking on a couple of occassions.

The good news is that it does get easier. I now rarely think about having one, normally only if I've had too much to drink.

Stick in there, think not only of the health benefits but also the money you'll save. Stick £5 in a jar every day for the next couple of months and then treat yourself with what you've saved :)

Good luck

When I gave up, one very simple realisation helped give me the strength to quit. In those days, I didn't have gum etc...

That realisation was:

You are never addicted to nicotine enough so that you wake you up in the night craving a smoke.
