Any ex smokers? UPDATE

On subject of smoking, council around our way are photographing and videoing and stopping vans who don`t have no smoking signs on them inside and out and giving 200 quid fines.
Has anyone else heard off this

BG van driver was nabbed for smoking in his van and not having a sign up.

they would have a field day round here with my lot. most dont have a sign and most puff away merrily in the van. dont see the harm myself and i dont have a sign up in mine. i dont pay parking tickets so i doubt ill be paying for not having a sign in my van :D

Haven't had one since last July ...almost bragging now. A miracle :!:

Had loads of failed attempts always seemed to fail at two weeks, then I'd crack and just have one  that was it before i knew it was back to 20+ a day.

But two weeks into it this time and struggling I tried the patches and was surprised they did work for me. found I didn't need a fag while i had a patch on. I was a bit concerned that I would be hooked on the patches but after about 4 weeks i started to forget to put a patch on and here I am nicotine free.

Think the frame of mind helps i.e instead of thinking your giving something up think how good you feel, and when your mates are smoking think how glad you dont have to do that anymore, and the look on their faces when you say nah dont need them anymore.

Perhaps the July ban helped or was it the patches?

Wonder how ninebob got on ?

Her Royal Sweetness and I both gave up in June 2006. I had been smoking for 50 years and she had been on 40/day for ages and had been smoking over 40 years.

Surprisingly easy with the use of patches and Inhalators, but I suspect the temptation to smoke again will be with us for ever.

Biggest downside is the weight we have put on is proving very difficult to shift

Lessons we learned:
1. It is easy IF YOU WANT TO DO IT. Otherwise it's impossible
2, If you both smoke you must give up together [and have a non-violence pact in place before you start]
2. There is no such thing as "Just one cigarette"

Good luck.

I gave up on 25 April 1989, 19 years ago :D

Record the date you give up, and congratulate yourself once a year, like a birthday.

I suspect the temptation to smoke again will be with us for ever.
True, but it gets less with the passing of time.
I allow myself an occasional cigar, maybe once a year 8)

Next task, to persuade the dog to give up, but negotiation can be difficult...

In a big butch voice, so you think its funny to dress me up to look like a nancy?Grrr

Was admitted to hospital in Jan 2005 with severe breathing problems (had been a 30/40 a day for over forty years).
Spent ten days there not being allowed to smoke, obviously.
On day nine the Specialist rolled up and told me I had lung cancer.
Didn't bother starting again when I got home.

Spent five months on Chemotherapy and a full month on Radiotherapy before being told that it had been arrested but not removed. Now have a chest Xray every six months to see that it is not growing.

I think everyone wanting to give up but not quite having the will power should visit a Chemo and a Radiotherapy unit and see what the treatment involves.

I seriously ask anyone who is only toying with the idea of stopping, QUIT NOW!

Thought provoking post Dave.

I hope you are ok now.

Everyone thinks that it won't happen to them! :(

My first full day without a fag and doing OK 8)

Well done!

I reckon you can manage tomorrow smoke free as well.

Let us know how you get on. Think how disappointed we will all be if you do smoke.

Not yet

I'm sure you'll be laughing at all us silly smokers stood shivering on the pub doorstep while you buy more beer with all your extra money. :)

Dave M a brave post.
people dont want to hear about reality in my opinion, tell them you have cancer and they cross the road.
I was dianosed with co-rectal cancer back in 2005, subsequently had a tumour involving the whole of my rectum part of my bladder and prostate gland removed 8hrs surgery.
yeah im ok
had an endoscophy yesterday.
smoking probabley contributed and sorry i still smoke.
but i wish i could give up :(

Glad are OK Simon.

Join me.

Change your habits and cut down slowly. The nicotine inhaler makes you feel as if you have had a smoke so you know you won't enjoy it if you do have one.

You CAN cut down!!!

JOIN ME
