Hi

We are putting our TV in bay not the corner of our lounge. Want sockets in floor (floorboards) behind TV. Buying Floorbox and recessed lid on top for piece of floorboard proving expensive. Any other ideas?

many thanks!

Is it a vented block and beam suspended floor?, be careful about creating draft ducts. Even the smallest hole while create a tornado of cold air in the winter.

Think you can still get tasteful brass flush mounted floor sockets. Otherwise make yourself a plywood box for under the floor & put the socket in that- when you cut the floorboard, do it with 2 angled cuts so the cutout bit will just sit on the existing boards.

It’s a old floor, floorboards on joists in a 100 year old Edwardian house,

good idea, any problem with getting an elec cert? Not that we are selling our home anytime soon…

In theory, you could create what could be called a “dip tray” which would basically be a square hole in the floor, big enough to get a hand in. Say 150-200mm square. In your case, lined with 18mm ply.
So you’d have a sunken wooden sided box between the joists. The sides of the box would help provide a stop or rest that the lid (made from the floorboards) sits in.

it could be draft free. You could then use cheap sockets inside. Possibly upside down
You could cut small cable reliefs in the trap.

if you have an area elsewhere in the house, cut a similar sized hole and replace with ply (eg in a bathroom area) and make a spare lid without the cable reliefs.

it’s a load of faff to do though.
