Anyone else cold today? Pumping concrete is too easy...

How far down do you run your cavity insulation?
We put a perimeter insulation strip around the external walls, internally (as prolly you do to) and this is enough to satisfy reg's.

However, some architects do like to see the cav insulation below the dpc. Just as many don't spec it either. It's a belt and braces idea and we have done it in the past. One of our local (strict) BCO's does not see the point and considers it unnecessary.

We usually run ours down 225mm and like you say put in the perimeter upstand too....I have to be honest though, I may well get into this nuder the slab business for the sake of the step on site!

Here in the province all new builds have the pipework laid on top of the sub floor which is about 175mm below ffl.
That includes drainage, vacuum systems, h&c supplies, ch f&r which can use up a lot of height. Try doing that with 100mm left to ffl!
And of course is considered acceptable by the water regs if access is needed as the sand and cement screed is considered easily removable.

It's the builders problem laying the insulation around the pipework.
