that they rent out privately? They seem blooming expensive (£300+ for a couple of days)
they would need a multi user licence to rent it out. they are expensive hence the cost of hiring is high

I've got this growing desire to explore the canals around Manchester (and not just the ship one). Whaddya think to hiring/buying a cheap boat with a motor, pay for the licence to use the canals, and doing a bit of bivvying?
you will need at least 2 licences as the Rochdale is owned by the Rochdale Canal Company, the Ashton and Bridgwater are owned by British waterways and the Pomona Link is around £35 a go, (Pomona Lock links the bridgwater to the Manchester Ship Canal & River Irwell)

mine cost £20,000 to build and a further £10,000 to fit out 70ft boat with 35ft of cabin back in 1984 sold it in 1998 for 23k when mooring fees went to £3k a year.

Do you know what the 3k a year mooring fees were used for Kevin? Seems very expensive just to tie up a boat. just the mooring, electric and phone were on top of that. some moorings are less, some are even more depends on location. (i was on the river lee in enfield)
A neighbour of mine has a narrow boat. I dont know what his mooring fees are, but I do know that hes just paid over 50k for the shell of a new one......then there is the price of fitting it out

Thanks for the replies Kevin and wotan. Blimey! It is expensive! But why? I mean, you don't seem to be getting anything for your money apart from a 'parking space'!? Like Dex I'd love to get a boat but we're struggle to make ends meet at the minute! I doubt it'll ever happen. It's good to have dreams though I suppose.
