That just shows how stupid and subjective the whole planning system is.
Had you got one of the big architectural names to design you a leaning white-painted box on stilts made of crushed car bodies, planning officers would be falling over themselves to approve it.
Indeed!! I was chatting with a Canadian builder a while back and in Montreal part of their planning states that buildings should retain at least the ethos of a percentage of the architectural features of it's neighbours, which allows for gradual changes, but also means that one street could have significantly differing buildings at each end.
