are bricks below dpc pointed

Hi at the moment having a double story extention,i have noticed that there are some big gaps in brickwork and no pointing has been done to fill in these.The bricks are engineering below dpc,should they be pointed or not

It depends if you are planning to render over them or not. If you are then not pointing will give a key for the render to adhere to. As eng bricks don't soak up much moisture this key is more important.

If you aren't rendering over then get them pointed properly and tidily.
 
Anything that will be seen above ground level when the project is finished needs to be jointed. Generally speaking this will be the first three or four courses below damp. Anything that is going to be below ground level doesn't need to be jointed, although it should be flushed up and any gaps or holes need to be filled in fully. It doesn't need to look nice but does need to be full
