Are cascaded light switches an acceptable way to do things

Currently have a 2way switch at each door of the room.

Want to break the room up into 5 separately lit areas.

Is it ok to do as follows :-
* wire 4 separate spurs to 4 switches
* wire 4 switches, plus one bulb, to main switched circuit

So, switch at door always switches at least one light on when you come in, and always switches all lights off when you go to bed

Or is that plain horrid for reasons I haven't thought of?

Can't grasp this yet - how many switches do you propose, and where, and will they be 2-way or 1-way ones?

Could you draw a circuit diagram and post it somewhere?

Assume (Live circuit only)

S1.1--_/ ---------------- \_ -- S1.2 -- (*)

Is one lamp on a two way switch

I'm doing

S1.1--_/ ---------------- \_ -- S1.2 -+--- (*)
...........\ ---------------- / ................|
....................................................+---- S3-- _/ -----(*)----(*)
....................................................+---- S4-- _/ -----(*)----(*)
....................................................+---- S5-- _/ -----(*)----(*)
....................................................+---- S6-- _/ -----(*)----(*)

Where S3 to S6 are one-way switches.

Hope this is clearer

TIA

its unusual but im it is not forbidden

btw the way you show 2 way switching done is not the normal way as it involves single core and earth which is pretty hard to get

the more normal way is

[code:1]
.------.--------------------------.

switch wires from rose or junction box 2 way switch------2 way switch
| | |
'------'--------------------------'
[/code:1]

i see a problem

the first/last switch, it will have to have enough capatity to carry the current for all the other switches, it will work, but do use good quality switches.

on the other hand i get this feeling when its done you wont like it

You could rig it up temp to see if it works as a layout.
