Hello

What size armoured cable will I need to run about 150m and what would the maximum load it could take be. I will be using an electrician but I am just looking at the options and pricing the work up.

Thanks

You size the cable on the load you need to draw, not the other way around!

Edit: well too slow.

I understand - so lets assume 10KW. The cable will be buried in the ground.

OK - works out expensive which is why I wanted to check this. What about 5KW?

Half that - but that will mean 16mm² (no 12.5) - but then you can have 6.3kW, 27A.

Before anyone says this is way over the volt-drop limit for lighting, does it matter?

That would be nice but as it is a stable with a couple of storage rooms etc I will live with the limitations depending on the cost. It will need lighting, maybe a kettle, maybe a heater but I think 6.3KW will be more than enough. If I ran 10mm cable, this would save about £200 but what load would this take? Any lower I imagine I will be restricted to lights only.
