Arrrrggggg! RCDs

T

toasty

Doing some underfloor heating for my brother next week, got most of the stuff but really struggled to get a RCD fused spur from any of the major sheds (B&Q, Focus, Wikes) After visiting 5 I finally found one in one of the massive warehouse B&Q's

Really odd, loads of RCD plugs, sockets and the DIN rail ones for CUs but no fused spurs.

Ideally I wanted a switched fused spur RCD but after 5 different shops I was happy to settle for an unswitched, I'll have to have a DP switch in the circuit too I suppose.

Just a bit of a pain, my own fault really should have ordered online sooner, but time was running out.

Maybe wrong, but I thought they all disconnected both poles when tripped?

Same here i would say both poles, ive heard it said that it tripes L first before N but having read something once in a book it said there is no difference L & N trip on RCD they do the same.

Oh OK, cheers guys.

I was a little concerned that maybe the RCD itself wouldn't be considered sufficient as a form of isolation as it is a device that could (and based on the presence of a test button) presumably does fail from time to time, in which case I'm assuming the test button wouldn't necessarily disconnect the load.

I think I'll go with the separate DP isolator switch too, it'll all be located in the airing cupboard anyway so noone will see the extra box, and safety is paramount afterall. Shame you can't get triple single boxes, as that's what I'll be needing (RCD spur, timer/stat and DP isolater)

Thanks again for the comments, I'm probably going overboard, but bathrooms, water, electrics etc... and he's a lovely brother, would hate anything to happen to him!!
