Asbestos and Boiler Replacement

Thinking of upgrading our 30+yo Potterton system boiler, but looking for some advice. Parts of the boiler are lagged in asbestos and the header tank is likely made of it. (there's a chance the loft insulation is made of it too). Would this all need to be removed before any work started?

also, would it be possible to keep most of the existing system (after it's been flushed)?

If you get someone like British Gas to do the job they will ensure all that needs to be done will be and to the highest standards. And they will answer all of your queries.

British Gas don't touch asbestos. Also British gas' idea on what "needs to be done" is debatable.

if your tank(s) are asbestos they can be disconnected and left in situ, is your loft insulation that loose bead type stuff? you'll need to get it all tested to see exactly what it is.

British Gas don't touch asbestos. Also British gas' idea on what "needs to be done" is debatable.

British Gas have procedures in place to deal with asbestos depending on what type it is. any suspect material will be sampled beforehand to determine exactly what it is.
AIB and the like can be removed if it's intact and not likely to break, softer insulation material like monkey dung will have to be removed by a specialist contractor and a clean air certificate given.

It's some kind of loose bead type stuff, yes. First thought would be asbestos. Is there a chance they would keep the tank on use? If only fitting a newer conventional boiler?
