I am sure they will not be laying new gas pipes, no gas in the area, roads are closed 6 pm to 3 am but residents can still get access, it is for many the only viable road, detour is around 5 miles, and during the day the disruption would be huge, I have no objections to night working it makes sense, but reversing beepers every so often is one thing, but on a road roller which is going back and to all the time it is working is OTT.
There are loads of steam rollers in the area which do not have reversing beepers, and on the local railway gala they are going to and fro all day, with the general public milling all round them, the drivers do have all round vision and often no seat they stand up, so and turn around when going in other direction, I will not say reversing as often better if the boiler is behind one, as better view, but the norm is to have boiler at the front as other wise it is rear wheel steer.
OK can't really use the steam rollers as most have rubber tyres fitted to give driver a better ride, but the engines are much quieter, more environmentally friendly as far as noise pollution until they blow their whistles.
