With the weather improving, I'm planning on repainting the back of my house as it's well overdue for some attention.

Before doing that, I wanted to check on the render in some places as it's looking tired/irregular. Only having moved into the house a year or so ago, I wasn't here when it was done and honestly dont have a whole lot of experience with render in general.

In cleaning up the walls to remove any dirt/flaking paint that has built up, I've come across some areas where the render isn't so great. In one of the attached pictures, I've circled in red an area that sounds hollow when tapped. My gut instinct is that this needs to be fixed by way of me tearing it off the wall and then redone, but is anyone able to give some advice on that.

1. Covering all bases, firstly is the repair necessary (and I assume it is, as I expect it'll just grow if left)?
2. Would you call the finish to the wall pebbledash (in my mind, that brings up an image of where the stones are left showing, but I cant think of another name for this style of lumpy finish)? How easy is this for an enthusiastic amateur to sort?
3. How feasible is it for me to make a repair like this and have it blend in to the rest of the wall?

The main reason I'm asking about point three is that the back of the house is a bit mismatched in the finish. The previous owners had the house extended at one point and there is a noticeable change in finish where they (and I'm guessing) reduced the size of the window (the boiler sits where some of that would have been, you can see the vent) and from where the extension happened.

Is there any fix to this or am I best served by burying the feelings of frustration every time I see it? At the very least I thought it might be an idea to knock some of the render off the lower half of the redone patch where the window used to be. There's an slight overhang that looks the most noticeable that might be fixed.

Thanks for any help people are able to offer!

OP,
Your pics dont show very well - why not post pics showing large areas of the render, and pics of any interior damage?
