I originally was planning on placing stone veneer for a fireplace surround so I placed hardibacker, metal lathe and a scratch coat. I now found some tumbled marble tiles that I'd rather use but the scratch coat is not completely even. (My first time doing a scratch coat) I figured I'd compensate for uneveness once applying mortar for stone.
Question is can I apply a thin coat of thinset to even out the scratchcoat or should I rip it out? It's not aweful ... just not even enough for tile ...
