One of my bedroom radiators is giving out a terrible stagnant water smell.
Anybody know how what the problem is or even better how to cure it ?

Unfortunately not. I stinks all the time. Interestingly enough, when I drained some water out via the bleed valve and it smelt ok.

Might be worth putting a system cleanser if it is an old system.

Not heard of this one :?

 Radiators are waterproof. Therefore, if you can smell water round it, it is leaking.

The smell is probably from your flooring.

Thanks for the reply I will give that a try.
It has a header tank in the loft and as I have very limited plumbing skills, could you recommend one which is VERY easy to use, ie pour it in and walk away, job-done style?

As JohnD said rads are waterproof.

Might be worth checking the rad valves as one of them may be leaking un-noticed and the water running down the pipe either onto the carpet or below the floor.

I'm all in favour of system cleaners, but the fact remains, if the water isn't leaking out then, clean or dirty, you can't smell it. Same with drains.

My money's on the worn-out rad valve

My money would be on an dead rodent under the floor, or something has fallen down the back of the rad
