Ban on mobile phones in the classroom being considered……

Kids need discipline, and telling them no doesn't harm them.

If you behaved you wouldn't get slapped with the ruler, it's common sense....

There is no need to question authority, that when we become lawless and end up in the diabolical state we are now.

I don't agree with smacking or the cane, but that's how it was back then, and tbh it's not like the world was a terrible place then, people used to be able to leave there back doors open without the fear of being robbed, or girls could walk 3 mile to school without being raped and abducted, it was a very rare occurrence in the past, now it's almost part of every day life.

And the reason for that is lack of discipline and respect.
German sociologist Ferdinand Tönnies would agree and disagree with you.
  • Gemeinschaft, often translated as ” community “, is a concept referring to individuals bound together by common norms, often because of shared physical space and shared beliefs.
  • Gesellschaft, often translated as ” society“, refers to associations in which self-interest is the primary justification for membership.
  • The equilibrium in Gemeinschaft is achieved through morals, conformism, and exclusion (social control) while Gesellschaft keeps its equilibrium through police, laws, tribunals and prisons. Rules in Gemeinschaft are implicit, while Gesellschaft has explicit rules (written laws).
  • Eric Hobsbawm has argued that globalization turns the entire planet into an increasingly remote kind of Gesellschaft

If the common norms socialised through shared physical space and shared beliefs are correctly internalised by individuals then gemeinschaft is achieved.
However, there are always abnormalities and deviants. The acceptance of corporal discipline, as a method of communicating society's norms, may allow deviants to practice their preferred methods excessively, thereby creating abnormalities in their subjects, and subsequent refusals to adopt society's norms. In small, close-knit communities, these issues may be properly exposed and accommodated. But as society and communities expand, such incidents are lost and obfuscated, and reliance of the internalisation of society's norms fall to gesellschaft, and the social control is achieved via rules, laws, penalties, etc.

That's a p*ss take surely?

Ever heard of a dictatorship?

Because that's where we're headed if we don't question!

Well that's just rediculous.

School should be a dictatorship, your there to learn, school is not a democratic institution you rock up, do as your told, learn, don't be disruptive to others around you, and then you jib off home.

The cane etc shouldn't be used as an aid to instill discipline there are other ways, but most of those other ways require the parent to show discipline to their child aswell, whereas most don't give a monkeys these days and feel it's a teacher's responsibility...

Laws should be questioned and that's why we have parliament, and a judicial system.

We had some PC liberal touchy-feely student mentor type person from the local authority visit our students once to see how they were getting on and 'consult' with them as to whether they could suggest any improvements to MY course. She told them they could suggest things such as starting later, longer tea and lunch breaks and finish earlier. Needless to say, to a lad they all suggested starting later, longer tea and lunch breaks and finish earlier! Oh, one did suggest that we supplied chocolate biscuits with the tea! I implemented……….none of it.

I've always conducted 360° assessment interviews with staff and students.
We discuss how they're getting along, etc, and how I can improve my/our (in the case of the school or the organisation) interaction with them to help them advance, and meet their requirements.

Every time you post you are the one who becomes more ridiculous...

The reason that kids now often don't give a f*ck is because of idiots like yourself saying that everything should be imposed on them and they should have no say...

You and your ilk are responsible for the state of UK society, so take a good look in your mirror as to where the blame lies!

"It never did me any harm" says Max Mosely.
I often wonder if the CP fans ever think whether its a good idea to teach children that the thing to do when you disagree with someones behaviour or what they have said to you etc is to hit them.

Just the threat of it worked for Ellal. Ellal threatened the teacher with violence, the teacher backed down and the whole class looked up to Ellal for ever more. Probably gone down as folklore in that school. ;)

I don't have any staff or students on here. And I'm not in a position to improve their learning or advancement because many of them, by their own admission, are deaf and blind to my comments.

Shame it didnt go down as "Ellal then served 12 months in a Young Offenders Institution".
