Banging noise when I turn the heating on

I have an interGas Xceed combi boiler which is about 7 years old and has been serviced every year.

I've just switched the heating on for the first time this year and it came on fine...radiator heated up as normal. However, about 2 hours later when I'd gone downstairs to have lunch, this horrendous banging sound suddenly started. I genuinely thought the neighbours were having building work done and were drilling into some brickwork, but after checking it out, it sounded like it was coming from the radiator that was calling for heat upstairs. I immediately turned the heating off and the banging stopped.

Here's a short clip of the noise.

The boiler doesn't appear to have any warning lights on and it still comes on fine for hot water (without any banging) so it seems like it's the heating that causes the issue.

I'm a bit concerned now that if there is something wrong and I switch it back on, it's going to make things worse or something is going to end up breaking.

The boiler is due its annual service but I'm waiting for the heating chap to get back to me with a date, so what I'm wondering is if anyone might be able to recommend anything I could/should do in the meantime? Any ideas what the issue might be? Is it a good idea to switch it back on to see if there's anything else I can find out that might help diagnose the prob? With it being quite cold just now, I'd also like to get some heat in the house if at all possible!

Thanks

I'd guess that you've either got a uni-directional rad valve or you're exceeding the differential pressure across the valve as it closes down....and that's more likely if you're trying to run a single radiator or no interlock.

Is there anything that would cause this to suddenly be a problem when it's always been fine before?

It's a faulty thermostatic valve as its trying toshut off just take the head off it you will be ok.
Yes rhe valve can be worn on the seating not unusual for seating to come apart
