Hi all,

I just read that the banister height in the UK should not be less than 900mm.

I'm in the process of replacing mine and have just realised that its about 865mm from the carpet.

Is this acceptable bearing in mind that I want to sell the house? Is it something that is checked?

Apparently in Scotland the required distance is 840mm so it is above that.

Thanks.

diagonal bannister min 850mm up from treads.

horizontal landing handrail min 900 to top.

Thanks.

Do you think that I would get away with the 3.5 cm difference though?

It will be a bit of a nightmare to have to change it now.

i take it it's the landing handrail you're concerned about?

i'm pretty sure homes up and down the country are bought and sold with non regulation conforming stair components such as yours.

what does your conscience say?

I think its safe. It does comform to Scotlands regulations.
