re-wire 5 years ago, new mains to new cut-off, however there is a MET with a 16mm earth from the C/U but from the met to the cut-off its a ( i guess) 6mm piece of Earth.
There are also 4no bare 2.5 earths connected to the MET - from what or where i cant tell
The 6mm earth connects (down a sleeve) below the cut-off and is obscured from view, but is obviously attached, it wont pull out.
Comments please.

Do you know what type of earthing arrangement you have (TNS/PME or TT)?

Does it look like the 6mm earth comes off the outside of the supply cable?

It sounds a bit like TNS to me and this is pretty common - you could ask DNO to upgrade but I don't think they'll treat it as priority. The fact that it's not sleeved is also not uncommon and not inherently dangerous.

Do the 2.5 earths go anywhere? maybe old main bonding to gas/water? I've also seen this where cables supplying sockets are lead sheathed - very old and should be replaced.

Some pics might help us further

thanks for the quick reply.
A1 tns
A2 yes its clamped to the mains supply cable, i guess.

In which case it's like 99% of my jobs then!

If you are at all concerned you could test (or get tested) the Ze (external earth fault loop impedance) at the origin of your install to check you have a good earth. It's a 5 min job for a spark with the test gear
