Hi,

I am having a bathroom installed and would like to have tiles up the side of the bath instead of a bath panel. The installer doesn't seem too keen to do this, is this really problematic I presume he would have to build some kind of internal frame and know how thick the tiles will be before starting????

If so I have been looking for bath panels but even this doesn't seem straight forward as the bath is 600mm high and all the bath panels I can find are 500mm is there a way around this or am I looking in the wrong place?

This is straighforward to do, but every plumber's heart sinks when he walks into a bathroom and sees this kind of panel.

He will indeed need to know the tile thickness, and the adhesive thickness, but this isn't hard to work out.

Thanks for that.

If we decide not to tile up the bath where do I go about looking for a 600mm bath panel they don't seem to exist

I was hoping you wouldn't press me on that particular question, 'cos I don't know. If it were me I would ask at my nearest bathroom specialist.

On one of own unfinished projects, I asked the British Bathroom Centre (on the A1) if they would build me a custom vanity unit from some kind of waterproof material, and they were happy to. I haven't got the drawing to them yet, but if they can do it then I'm sure lots of other suppliers can too.

If you really luck out on this one, then you could have 100mm plinth built and tiled over, like a step into what's sounding like a high bath, then mount a 500mm panel on top of that.

Cheers for that.

I have just this second seen exactly that you can bny the plinths that are the same colour. Would it be possible to use any veneered piece of wood as a panel???? Its just that would be a much cheaper option i.e. about a third of the price.

Thanks for the help much appricated

You would need to ask a chippie/joiner, but I wouldn't expect veneered wood to last very long in any bathroom, unless it's heavily laquered on all sides and edges.
