I am installing a ceiling in-line duct mounted extractor fan in a small bathroom. In the loft, there is a soil and vent pipe which goes up through the roof. Is it acceptable to tap into this pipe for the extraction or must I make a hole in the brickwork?

I shouldn't if i were you you may get the smell of this (anagram) coming back in.

Why not take the pipe out through the sofit board (its easier to do)

ok - thanks

The sofit board is not an option because it is slanted and very close to the roof tiles. I think my only option is to go through the brick wall.

You can also vent it out thru' the roof tiles, but must have a dome cap type on top.
