Hi,

I want to install an extractor fan in my bathroom.
The bathroom has a flat roof.
I want to take a feed from the light in the centre of the room to the fan on the far wall. The problem is the joist go across the room so I cant feed a wire betwen the plaster ceiling and the roof to where the fan is going.

So the question is can I run a cable from the light to the wall and then chase out the wall and take the cable horizontally around the two walls just below the ceiling? - I know normally horizontal cables is a no-no.

I plan to use a three pole isolator in the run from the light to the fan.

Thanks in advance

this is actually possible i think. There is a safe zone that extends about 6 inches below the ceiling for cables if i remember correctly. Also, on the wall the fan is on, the cable runs horizontally from it so it will be in an approved zone. On the other wall, if you put the isolator where the cable comes down from the ceiling, it will be in an approved zone again.

are you aware of part p? this work is notifiable to your local building control or should be done by a part p registered electrician.
