My Ma ha a couple of etched glass fittings with CFL's in in the bathroom - ceiling mounted.

Now they look feeble, or rather our eyesight is worsening (ahem)....

She does not want the upheaval of carpets and floorboard shifted, so it'll be limited to straight swaps with replacement fittings rather than re-siting or anything grander.

I was thinking of replacing them with something like this:

Any better ideas?

Basically, we just want the best light output that two surface-mounted fittings can give us.

Ideally, she wants clear glass, but that conjurs up images of old-fashioned plate fittings. YUK.

What do you think?

Are there any decent LED fittings with a decent bright warm white output?

It's probably the CFLs have just lost a considerable part of their output. They do, over time.

Replacing the CFLs with new ones of the same (or if the fitting allows, a greater) rating will probably provide an improvement.

That said, an eye test every two years is recommended if you don't already have one.

Yeah, new ones ain't much better I'm afraid.

Thanks VV. Style not right, I'm afraid.

BTW, more than a year on, our bathroom is almost finished! I'll post some pictures when it's done! ;)
