A couple of questions. I have read over the new 17th regs regarding bathroom zones as well as the old 16th ones.

However, what is the effect of the regs as regards a cupboard in the bathroom which is 'built-in' and separated from the rest of the bathroom?

If switches etc are inside this, does it comply?

Also, if cabling is to be run inside the ceiling void or behind tiles, what protection is needed for the cables themselves e.g. oval or PVC conduit?

Thanks

That will depend on the location of the cupboard zone 1 or 2?

protection is by 30mA RCD, thou the use of mechanical protection is a good idea

The cupboard itself would be outside Zone 1. As far as I can see, the only part 'near' the cupboard is the sink unit [zone 2] which sits to the left of it.

Set-up would be thus;

Cable from shower behind tiled wall and encased in oval//PVC. Cabling goes vertically up then across the ceiling void in oval/pvc. Shaver socket and shower cable terminate inside cupboard encased in oval/pvc and behind cupboard wall.

Shower cable protected by a switched 3A FCU AND a 30mA RCD [as per MI guidance] Shaver socket protected by 5A FCU [unswitched] as per MI and properly earthed via lighting circuit. Light cables switched by pull-cord mounted in ceiling. Lighting cables run inside ceiling void inside oval//PVC.

Shaver socket will be positioned more than 0.6m vertically from sink.

Does that make sense??
