I drawing up plans for a revamp of my bathroom and would appreciate some help please?

I'm going to have a false wall built to hide all the pipework and electric cables.

I'm going to have an under tile heating mat fitted and also an electric heating element fitted in the towel rail.

I realise I need to allow for FCUs to be fitted in the wall to take the wiring but will the under tile heating need a thermostat and can this be fitted into the false wall or does it have to be outside the bathroom. Also, will the heating element need a thermostat or is that built in? I also want to make provision for fitting an electric fan heater (zone 2) if necessary at some stage in the future which will also need an FCU fitted.

I need to know what I need so that I can mark/and cut these (I'm going to use dry lining boxes) into the false wall. Is there anything else I need to be aware of with any of these?

I'm also thinking of having a new MCB fitted into my Wyles consumer unit. I recall that the wiring was very tight and I thought it would be a good idea to have the bathroom on it's own circuit anyway.

The think the unit is a Wylex NSES 6304, fitted about eleven years ago, with six RCD MCBs and three non RCD MCBs. The RCDs have red switches and the others are white. Apart from the kitchen the switches are marked NSB32 B32 (SK) STOTZ so I assume I will need the same for the new one. Do I have to fit only Wylex, in which how can I make sure I get the right ones as I believe the models have changed over the years or can I use any make?

I did take a picture of the unit but can't get it uploaded and I think this is the only way I can post it.

Thanks

PS I should mention that all the copper pipework is bonded correctly.

Are they ALL marked like this, B32? <Major alarm bells ringing>

Upload pictures here: www.imageshack.us Click browse, find the file you want. Click resize image option, choose 800x600 or 680x480. Click "host it" and copy the "direct link to image" (or whatever it says nowadays) and paste it into a post here, surrounded by [img] [/img] tags.

By the way why do you say Are they ALL marked like this, B32? <Major alarm bells ringing>

Perhaps I weasn't clear enough. Apart from the Cooker which is 32A the switches to the left of the RCD trip are as I stated (B32). The lighting MCBs (the ones coloured white) are B6. Hope this helps.

B32 is a 32 Amp type B MCB. Same as the cooker one. I cant see any cause for concern on looking at the photo - I was thinking even your lights were on a B32 - this is how you described it!

You have 2 spare slots on the RCD side, which I would use for supplying any bathroom circuits. Please have an electrician do this though - by opening that box, any mistake could comprimise the integrity of the whole installation, as well as the work being notifiable under part p.

Thanks crafty, sorry for the confusion, I thought I might have given that impression hence my correction.

I have an electrician friend who will carry out the work but have been asked to get all the bits and pieces needed and get as much of the simple work e.g fixing dry lining boxes etc in the false wall (which will be marine-ply) as I can, as he is currently working away and can't visit before he turns up to do the work.

I have by the way confirmed that the thermostat for the heating mat will have to be installed outside the bathroom.

I've been looking at the Screwfix Radiator Heating Element and it doesn't mention anything about needing a separate thermostat. I've also looked a couple of other suppliers and there is no mention of needing a separate thermostat. Is this standard for this type of element?

My main concern now is to get the correct MCB. What do I need to ask for to make sure I get the right one? I know that Wickes sell them but are they just for their consumer units? They are just down the road from me so would be convenient unless there is somewhere better to get it from.

Is there anything else I need to cover in my preparatory work?

Thanks

Thanks for the info and link.

The MCB you refer to won't fit my consumer box but The Fuse Company have pointed me in the right direction and I have two on order.
