I've chased out some redundant wiring from a rendered internal wall and now need to make good. The rest of the render is drummy and loose so ideally needs to be removed before it removes itself. Is putting battens up and plasterboard/skimming an acceptable method in this case? Will this reduce the U value?
The wall to the left of the corner is the neighbours place. The wall to the right is the front of the house (mid terrace Victorian).

Think most would use dot 'n' dab to fix the plasterboard to the brick.
If the brick is dusty when you've ripped the plaster off, you can seal it with a 50% PVA 50% water, once dry D&D.

Battens take more effort to screw in and get level and you need something like concrete screws to fix this to the wall.
As for U value, I don't think either method will alter it much... if you want to lower the U value, you'd need to insulate said wall with foam boards.
