I bought a new element thinking that was the problem but when I fitted it, the fuse on the consumer unit tripped. I circuit tested the wires but there was no connectivity (likewise, there was no connectivity on the old element).
I took the back and top off the oven to trace the wires and circuit tested again. There is connectivity on the wires from end to end but testing across the thermostat did not give connectivity (no sure it this is a valid test anyway!).
Any thoughts on this? Is the thermostat likely to be the problem?
Many thanks,
Fin

Was it the fuse/MCB that tripped or the RCD/RCBO?
Does your model have a double element?
Is the mains lead in c=good condition and not damaged?
Any excessive water been spilt over the appliance?

It was the switch with RCCB on it (and a test button) on the main distribution board.
It has a three-circle element and fan for the oven, and a grill all within the oven.
Mains lead looks ok
No excess water has been spilt over the appliance.
