Hi
We have recently had a baxi 552 boiler and firefront fitted in place of our old council gloworm fire and back boiler. Everything worked fine but the reason we did this is to change the fire, anyone with the old council gas fire will know what I mean.
Everything works fine on the new system apart from the fact that sometimes the boiler kicks in, even when the timer switch is turned off. when it kicks in, its just for a short while almost as if its on economy of some kind.
The timer switch is a bit old also, its called a 'Superswitch' and although it has settings for water and heating separately, they never worked properly, it always heated both unless I turned the rads off from the airing cupboard.
The light on the timer has always gone on if we switch it on constant, or timed, and with the new boiler its still that way, so its got me stumped at the minute.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Andy

Edit... there is no thermostat as far as I can see other than the one on the boiler, here is a pic of the setup at the bottom of the tank in the airing cupboard

( Edited - wrong question

Who installed it?

Why did they install a back boiler? It is not permitted unless you meet the exception requirements. Did the installer complete the exception form and provide you with a copy? If not, you have an illegal installation.

Are you sure it is a 552? That is an obsolete wall mounted boiler, last made in 1984.

What is the GC (Gas Control number) it will be 41-xxx-xx?

Who installed it?

bermuda 552 bbu

GC no 44 0 77 50

only bit you got right is it is an old un

D halisham do a little more reading the 551/ 552 is probably the most popular boiler ever fitted and is a back boiler but is at least 10 years old.

EDIT
beat me kev

1 cos it was cheap

2 cos err indoors liked the fire

3 cos the rule book went outa the window

4 good question WHO fitted it

5 $100 says the liner is still the same one

6 why the air sep in the pic poss fully pumped :?:

1 cos it was cheap

Thats about the size of it kev, not sure what work they did but they are pretty well known in the area and corgi and gas safe etc..

I won't question why they did it, they just did what we asked them to do, all I need to know is where to start looking if there is a problem thats all.

Please post installers Gassafe No. if you are able.

Paul.
There is no way I would do that! The guys are high on my list of plumbing and heating engineers around my area.
I have been in the building trade for around 25 yrs, starting in City and Guilds in Carpentry and Joinery and now the BS of doing NVq's because some jumped up city pen pusher wants more qualifications for my trade.
I know what the procedure is for getting the various certificates in plumbing and heating involving gas, I appreciate the hassle involved because I work with 2 young lads every day that have just passed their exams, but, I think there are alot of guys out there just praying on people because they have the sticker on their van!
Now, can someone just read my original post and maybe give me a clue as to what my problem is regarding my Baxi 552 boiler firing up when my timer switch is turned off, or shall I go to another forum and ask some down to earth guys willing to help!

Andy

PS Sorry for the guys that have answered respectfully but I am sick of the BS that is associated with this subject.

evohicks

i dont think you understand, why many RGIs on this site get a wee bit hacked off, when punters like yourself, post on here about a problem with there system, knowing full well, that it has been a cowboy job from start to finish, with your full knowledge and blessing

i hope for you and your family`s sake that the ventilation and flueing is correct

my advice......................consult with your installer.

first things first

do you have a valve as in the pic i posted ?

i doubt if it's a boiler fault with a 552

which leaves wiring controls etc

and fwiw i agree with the bull sh it in the industry remark wink:

but its the way it is

Well get them back to fix your problem then cos from what we can see your heating is a subtle blend of dogs dinner and pigs ear...Folk like you make me laugh, been in the building trade for 25 years and all you've learned is how to cut corners and cobble things up on the cheap... So you're off to another site?.... Bye
