What can I get to replace my current back boiler?

Would like something that fits behind the fire where the current boiler is fitted. Will probably be changing the fire @ the same time.

All replacement boilers have to meet minimum efficiency requirements. There are no back boilers which meet these requirements so, in most cases a back boiler is out of the question; you are stuck with a wall or floor mounted condensing boiler.

However, the government has recognized that there will be times when the installation of a boiler which meets the requirements will not be cost effective and have produced a procedure to determine the cost effectiveness.

I can sympathize with you as my son has an old back boiler which needs replacing and there is nowhere to put a condensing boiler which does not mean either ripping out the kitchen or running pipes up into the loft, which then needs boarding, lighting and a loft ladder etc etc. Unfortunately, the exceptions criteria take no account of the inhabitants wishes.
