I have a baxi solo and a few months back started clicking nothing major so i left it, now it sounds like a machine gun but it only does it 4/5 times a day.

Anyway, i have had a plumber round this evening from huge plumbing company in kent which i payed the pleasure of £70 for, he came in said yeah it could be the pcb but cant test it and walked out saying i would get a call in the morning with a quote, now even i know i have had my pants pulled down for 5 mins work. What im getting at though is i have found a pcb on the internet how easy would it be to change myself? i know i should have a professional to do it but im quite compitent and surely it cant be too hard to change the pcb?

Well im fighting to get my money back as i find it a joke considering i had the day off for someone to call in between 12-5pm then turns up at 8:45pm.

any help and advise would be much appreciated,

Nick

if your competant - easy
turn off power
unscrew cover
pull out plugs
replace pcb
push back plugs
replace cover
turn back on

I would never recommend calling a "huge" plumbing company as they are fforced to employ inexperienced people who often lack both expertise and customer care.

A small independent with just one or two is going to be far better!

I would never go to that situation without a spare PCB in case I decided to change it on the spot.

However its just not possible to come at any particular time. We have to work until the boiler is repaired unlike your guy who waltzs in and leaves without doing anything.

I rarely see anything thats huge apart from traffic jams!

thanks for your replys, i'll try the pcb once it arrives if that doesnt solve the problem i will be posting back on here.

once again thanks!

Fitting a suppressor across s/live and neutral can usually sort out the problem

I seem to remember that some replacement PCBs include a supressor to add as a modification.

well after complaining to the company this morning they have agreed to fit a new pcb with no labour charge, it was cheaper than it would cost me for the pcb myself so im happy with the outcome but for future reference i will call a small local company from the yellow pages.

thanks for all your help, looks like i will be sticking around on the forum for some other diy help!

None that I'm aware.

Perhaps the add on supressor that came with the PCB was for a GlowWorm similar heat only boiler.

I dont bother much with boiler makes and models, they are all pretty much the same, Micron, Solo Zeon etc.
