Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to fix a damp issue in an upstairs bedroom which is from condensation and damp on the window plus plaster above. I am hoping someone can advise me.

Basically the window is terrible from previous owner. It doesn't have any anti mould sealant around the pvc edges and just looks a bit cheap.

I am not sure if the issue is the window or the bay roof as there is mould on the inside bay plaster at the top - see pic. Also it looks like the wood is rotting on the bay roof from the outside.

It could be both. If so what do I fix first and what do I ask a roofer/builder to do. I don't mind getting a new window but don't want to spend all that money to still have the issue.

Cheers

The black mould is from condensation. The ceiling here is obviously a cold area and not insulated.

Looking at the edges around the glass there is mould there too after cleaning i am sure.

Trickle vents fitted to the windows will be a good start and or open the windows a bit more.

Look for the moisture sources with in the building. Is the bathroom extractor working/fitted? likewise kitchen?
lots of house plants

The outside fascia needs decoration . a bit of gutter might help save the timber here.

It does not look like a roof leak. More likely life style change required..
