Having always been an Avocet ABS fan I assumed these were still the best however I have spoken to 3 different locksmiths now who have all said they have had issues with these post installation. As a result 2 don't fit them at all anymore due to these issues. Personally mine have always been ok.

All recommended the Ultion WMX which does have the TS007 and Sold Secure Diamond standard. However looking on YouTube seems easier to pick than the ABS.

What has everyone gone with / any brands to consider or avoid?

Thanks

I dont think many thieves etc tend to pick the lock, but rather use brute force and break the thing off, or smash a window etc. I wouldn't get too worried about pick resistance, as long as it can't be bypassed or something. Personally I've gone with average locks, but quality heavy duty handles.

Only people on TV pick locks, although the odd villas may use a lock pick gun however being caught with one in his pocket is quite a risk. The average lout will snap a Euro lock in seconds, most important make sure they are snap proof. Snap proof locks can still be snapped but only the outer bit snaps off leaving the lock secure.

I fitted these very pricey but in my view worth it.

PS they are very particular who cuts keys so that may be one reason locksmiths avoid them, more hassle for them and they cannot do it themselves and charge for keys.;)

Evidently, burglary methods have evolved in the few years since the original post. But Sold Secure has updated its testing accordingly.

In case it’s helpful, here’s the latest list of euro cylinders that pass Sold Secure’s new Diamond 2024 test (not to be confused with the old Diamond 2019 version):

It looks like far fewer euro cylinders have passed the new Diamond 2024 test compared to the old 2019 standard.

BSI’s 3-star kitemark is outdated, too. The 3-star testing is being updated, but BSI is giving euro cylinder manufacturers until 2027 to meet its newfangled 3-star standard. Regardless, I reckon Sold Secure Diamond is the tougher test to pass.

Why must it be a Eurocylinder?
While euro cylinder locks are rarely the most secure, how often do uPVC doors give us a choice?

Sadly, the updates to euro cylinder security standards show how vulnerable they are. Many current 3-star cylinders won’t pass the incoming 3-star test. But are mortice lever locks ever an option for the ubiquitous uPVC door?

Its alright John hates euro cylinders with a passion and thinks upvc should be made illegal and everyone made to have timber doors with BS3621 mortice locks. Mortice locks can be picked as well but he never mentions that, in 30 years of being involved in upvc repairs and 16 of those working for the UK's largest and then 2nd largest 24hr boarding/glazing and locksmithing companies I can tell you I NEVER attended a job where a euro cylinder had been attacked to gain entry whether it be by snapping, drilling or bumping though bumping is only a recent thing admittedly, no burglar is going to attack a front door lets be real, they'll go round the back and throw a concrete planter through your patio door toughened glass and walk in
