That is the sad part about it. Look at the Atmos heat exchangers - as a class act indeed. Look at the original IMI Powermax, again advanced for the time. ACV is another innovator with the HeatMaster. Keston still have their own heat exchangers too and at one point were way ahead of all others. Quantum, a small local makers, had a very good home produced stainless steel heat exchanger, but they have dropped boilers. Maybe they ignored the service side. Service is the big problem with boilers as there are few decent servicemen around.
So, service free boilers is the way ahead, with large LCD displays indicating where any faults are and then call the serviceman. Combustion can be monitored and when moving out of setting an alarm can be shown telling the user to get a man in. When way out it goes to lockout.
Mistral oil boilers are in Telford predominantly supply boilers to a few counties, where they can also maintain good service too. Amazing in this day and age.
Yet, as gas boilers can be knocked together from kits parts, I find it strange there is no local boiler makers guaranteeing parts and service in their area. The only downside of kit boilers is sourcing the pcbs. There appears not to be a generic off-the-shelf pcb.
