Just purchased some Hamiltons pure bristle and wanted to know the best way of breaking in. Some say to singe the edges and work in to a wall and others say to trim them with scissors

I think decs would use them as an emulsion brush on walls for a while or rougher oil based work that didn't need a fine finish, trimming or singeing could damage the brush which could affect the paint finish. TBH i've used bristle brushes straight out the sleeve into oil paints with the only problem being a bit of bristle loss and some of the tips snapping. Brush technology has moved on so much in the last few years that bristle brushes are becoming history, i own one thats currently in my brush mate and a few woosters that i've never used. Check out wooster silver tips, proform picasso's, purdy monarch elites and corona, all synthetic and all produce brushes that are excellent in oil, acrylic and hybrid paints.
