Bettering myself

Hi, I am a builder, bricklayer/plaster of 13 years and i have hit a wall of boredom at work, my boss has agreed to put me on some courses but is struggling to find any!

I wondered if anyone else had tried to go on any specialist courses or had some suggestions,

Is it possible to try running your own jobs, either through your boss or as a fully functioning Self Employed Tradesman.

I was a bit bored of laying block after block, but once I started running my own extensions etc my interest in work took a totally different direction.

It helped me a lot, I think the organisation side of things meant I was dealing with a lot more people throughout the day and made the hours fly by. With 13 years experience you should have all the practical requirements of running your own business by now.....

I can pretty much deal with all the trades apart from the namby-pamby heating and wiring side, just the man stuff really.

I find that building a cut roof, whilst offering many challenges, is very rewarding and means getting down to some decent math's. I rediscovered trigonometry, much to my delight, making the setting out of a roof a lot less difficult.

Love 'playing' on a digger too.

Plastering and bricklaying are awfully dull, i have to admit.

In my earlier days in joinery i longed to work for a builder/joiner who did cut roofs, they just somehow fascinated me, maths not being my strong point i would of loved to help with the roofs and improve my maths/working out compound angles - alas it never happened and i slowly slipped into the dreaded pvc side of things

Seeing a cut roof going up while out and about still intrigues me
