I had 1970s Central Heating removed from kitchen and this was the result; as you can see the massive metal vent was hanging out of the kitchen ceiling then it was sawn off leaving a hole as follows; ...see attachments. I will be putting a cabinet or cupboard over the hole so it won't be seen but i wanted to cover over it.

What I did was layed some long vinyl tiles inside the hole and then used Easifill to form a crust. as you can see. I want to gradually go over that crust with Easifill. Any tips or sound advice on the next steps? I was thinking go over crust with either POLYCELL FOAM or more Easifill until it's level with original ceiling and then sand down the edges.

Why didn't you trowel it up when it was still wet? You'd save yourself hours and buckets of dust.

Make timber frame all the way around. Half behind old plasterboard and half ready for new plasterboard to sit against.
You can fix some to the side of that joists or cut plasterboard back a bit. Whichever.
I use Cls timber 38mmx63mmx2400m
£4.50 one of.
You will need 12.5mm plasterboard
Box of filer

Get plasterboard to fit in against timber frame and be level.
38mm drywall screws all the way around in old board and new every 100mm.

Fill smooth. Use damp sponge and blade. If tidy minimal filling required

Without stipple pad I'd leave flat.. Paint.

If you want a stipple finish it's a thin mix like cream a use sponge to make spikes but it's going to look terrible

Gravity i.e. because it wouldv'e all just slopped onto the floor, that's why i had to do it bit by bit.

Screw more into the ceiling? That's what i wanted to avoid.

I think the advice was to fill the hole with plasterboard tape and skim, rather than making a wedding cake. (no offence). You can use a bit of roof batten then attach it with a screw to the old and the new. recess the screws use plasters skim tape and then plaster as usual. The problem with layers of plaster on top of each other is it has a habit of cracking.
