Hi

I am wondering if anyone can suggest a good durable, long lasting finish for untreated Birch-faced plywood joinery. We'd really like to keep the characteristics of the birch (clear finish).

We're looking for a clear finish, preferably a glossy or satin to gloss finish and something that can be relatively easy to apply, since all the joinery has been assembled.

I was looking at WOCA Lacquer Oil initially however this is quite expensive. I'd be happy to use a cheaper version for the inside of the joinery (satin or matt finish) and a glossier finish for the front of the doors. I'm planning to use this finish throughout the flat.

Hope you can help.

do you mean indoors, kitchen cabinets and the like?

Yes. Built-in cabinets/cupboards in the kitchen, bedroom and living room. Thanks

I would certainly go for a satin finish, it will look more natural.

Glossy varnish are called "toffe-apple" by some in the furniture trade

however i haven't recently used one so have no recommendation on brand.

Oil finishes take a long time to apply well and need maintennce.
