Bizarre dimmer issue with LV lights

Hi all,

Components are:

1. 3 way Varilight iFSi403M touch/remote dimmer (middle circuit used for LV lights as below)
2. 3 x Aurora (Dais) DA-E60 12V transformers (20-60w/va)
3. 3 x Aurora A2-UCL102 12V G4 cabinet lights

The lights flicker when switched on but if I dim them up and down a couple of time the flicker stops. Transformer is trailing edge compatible, touch dimmer is trailing edge, any ideas what's happening here?

Should I just buy 3 Varilight transformers?

Hi,

It was two per trani initially but I moved down 1 with the flickering to see if I could determine the issue.

I've since discovered that it's the process of putting the lights onto full that sorts the flickering not raising and lowering the dimmer...

your transformers are not compatible with the dimmer..
they are dimmable by resistive and inductive dimmers, not electronic ones..

they have "soft start" which is probably causing the problems..
try a different dimmer or transformer..

ColJack,

Thanks. Suspected there was an incompatibility but hadn't realised the specific differences you've outlined below. I'll get some of the Varilight ones from 1stop....

FYI:

The IEC definitions of voltage bands are:
  • Extra Low Voltage: AC below 50V and DC below 120V
  • Low Voltage: 50 - 1000V AC or 120 - 1500V DC
  • Medium voltage: 1kV - 35kV
  • High voltage: 35kV - 230kV
  • Extra-high voltage: >230kV
This is not some pedantic technical point - if you start getting involved in doing your own electrical work, and start learning about regulations etc you'll come across references to "Low voltage", and it'll be no good you thinking that that means 12V...
