Bl**dy council

That doesn't surprise me
Always grafting and improving my home for my family. This is important to some but not others. One has to think of the folks around you and what added space and amenity means to them.

Could be much worse - I could always be a selfish RWR gammon Brexer, I guess.

Bet you put it through the business though
NO!

Always keep home stuff separate. I have two big box files with all the home stuff. One exclusively for the two storey extension built and the other for all the rest, i.e. conservatory, new extension to replace conservatory, new fence, single storey extension, smokers canopy, landscaping I, II, III, front drive, front drainage, front planter, decking, new posh shed, re wire, new CH boiler I, new CH boiler II, new kitchen, new bathroom, new shower room, doors, windows...blah...blah...blah...

I have this theory that a homeowner needs to spend 'x' amount of money on their property each year, to maintain the status quo. And if a property is left unloved for a few decades, that amount becomes the (tidy) sum of all those years of neglect.

Never had one to get rid of one bulky item though.
There are few times us van owners can look smug, when using our shed on wheels, but lugging bulky items is one of them. The other is at Christmas time, when mortals are fussing about in the rain, tying the trees on the roof.

We suffer the ignominy of the big old van throughout the year, only for some scrounging third hand 'mate' to say - 'you have a van don't you...? '.

:sneaky:

I'm assuming that you have neighbours, one on the left & one on the right?

Can't you use their allocation???

Get your hand in your pocket (extremeley unlikely) and you may have some recourse.

Beggars can't be choosers. (n)

My hand is in my pocket already, Nosenowt, and quite deep, paying for the service. I pay council tax, in full, for the service.

Now crawl back under the rock, you climbed out from under - you nasty piece of work!

I have edited my original post in this thread, to help the hard of thinking, sad individual Nosenowt, who professes to live in a skip yard - understand that I obviously didn't imply that the collection was actually free, rather it was included as an already paid for, part of my council tax.

As we are in dispute with the council, over their failure to collect the mattress, I have checked my security cameras recording. They did actually turn up at the gate, at 7:38, one got out, looked up the drive, got back in, and they drove off, one minute later. The item was where it was agreed it would be, in the drive, but alongside the drive. We have a long drive, not all of which is visible from the gate. Just five minutes later, in expectation of them collecting it, it was dragged down nearer to the gate.

They had my mobile number, they had my landline number, they had my email address, and they could simply have knocked on the door - did they bother - nope!

We have a free FREE OF ADDITIONAL COST single collection, once per year, for up to three bulky items. Beyond that, you have to pay them £20 fee. You book it online, and they give you a date - they used to give a date, and either morning, or afternoon. Three weeks ago, I booked them to collect a double mattress, and given a date of the 18th. I put it out in the drive, making sure no rain was forecast, and made a point of waiting in all day. Not collected by late afternoon, so I rang waited on the phone 30 minutes to get through, only to be told the 18th, might mean 18th,19th, or 20th, but not to worry, the forecast is dry for the rest of the week. Anyone tried lifting a sopping wet through mattress???

19th today, and still sat there... Some people, probably don't have drives, and so have to store indoors, and so would have to be home to let them collect - basically staying off work for three days. No wonder they pay independents collect, and dump such items in lay-byes/in the countryside.
A lot of Council's don't offer those top up services other maybe than in rural skip services, many of which stop because people use them for non permitted items. Further cut backs on the way, thanks to increased costs cascading down from Trumpf's middle east shenanigans.

It is free because anyone could use the service regardless of whether they pay Council Tax in the area.(unless ID is required).
