why dont you pour caustic soda down then henry hoover it!!...That way you are guaranteed to Ferkle Henry..

Update - looked like the bicarbonate/ vinegar and later drain cleaner worked, but it hadn't. Had another look outside and lifted the drain hole cover - the outside drain could be seen (the one above ground must be the original one) so bought a cable tool from Screwfix which went right through to what sounds like under the shower trap and turned the wheel a number of times then brought it out and the whole tube was clean. Did that a few times but nothing. The water goes down but not quickly.

Another thing worth trying is to put a couple of kettle fulls of boiling water into the drain so if there is any build up of congealed soap in the pipe the hot water will help to remove it.
If it were me I would pour a whole bottle of the thickest bleach I could buy into the trap first then the boiling water 15 Or so minutes later.

The bleach is to rot down any hair that has formed a hairball with the soap , the hot water will help to break up the soap.

Modern bleach isn't as strong as it used to be, so it may not work. You're grandmother would have done it, but not guaranteed nowadays.

I'd be very surprised if you'd manage to get any kind of cable from a manhole up the shower waste pipe Chris. How about taking a few photos of your shower setup & posting them up? That'll help us help you.
