I had the option of deleting mine but choose to keep it as
it must be there for a reason????
my idle was lump due to its failure now smooth again, and having seen a few aux drive pulleys they have separate pieces inner and out with a rubber insert

I did think along the same line as burnerman if not said in sarcasm LOL . I assume the cars need them due to greater power and torque than what a derv used to provide and the revs are much higher than previous.
Appartly DMF does most of it work in start up and stopping and elimnating it will result in more vibration

the dmf can be reused if the wear tolerances are within the manufacturers specified, 2 ive done recently were badly out of spec but oddly didnt give out any perculiar noises or change the driving experience
