I have a 4x5m room with a concrete floor, due to receive a vinyl flooring. The issue I have with it is that it is just so hard underfoot, with the previous vinyl it was quite uncomfortable in bare feet. The vinyl retailer says no underlay is needed and no prep as the concrete is in good condition. The new vinyl is 4mm thick.
I was wondering if I could lay some sort of board underneath the new vinyl and tape the joints. I see two advantages to this - it would be a little softer underfoot, and a 5 or 6mm board topped by 4mm vinyl would raise the floor to that of the adjoining rooms which have laminate flooring, so the thresholds would look better.
But what sort of board to use, should it be glued down? Grateful for any ideas.
(The concrete floor has no pipes underneath btw)
