Hi i'm quoteing to ply out a loft aprox 80 sqr m.
The client wants to use it for light storage. Need to know what depth of ply to use. Joists are aprox 350mm apart.
First thing, run 2x2 battens, screwed down into existing joists at right angles. adds strength and enables wires and pipes to be circumvented, plus will leave more space for insulation.
18mm T&G chipboard will be cheaper at about a fiver a sheet. If ply is preffered you will get away with 12mm for light storage, although thicker won't hurt.
When you say 'joists', are these actually strong enough to support a floor? Many loft joists are only strong enough to support the plaster ceiling underneath. Just be careful. 18mm t&g chipboard would be my suggestion.
