Boiler installation / Ethics / General Q

yet every year they condemn it
That must be tiresome hearing the same thing year after year yet on it plods.
As for the scrap. We have to pay tax on what you think is a cash reward for us. I leave all of your scrap and rubbish on site to do with as you will as its too much grief disposing of it now.

Very interesting hearing from other perspective! I just felt if I’m paying a premium to do a job, surely I can do what I want with the parts & bits?
Of course you can. As I said, rip it out and weigh it in before the plumber gets there and let him know your intentions before you invite him to quote.

combi boiler installed next week with Heatable after getting the best price against Glow Green, IHeat, BOXT & British Gas
sounded like he wanted to rush the job from the start (said he’ll do quickest possible way,
those companies are box shifters, the installers are under pressure to fit very quickly

I dont know how much the heating engineer gets paid compared to if he was doing it direct with the customer, possibly not great.

our old Turbomax.

We may not agree on many things, but know a quality boiler when we see one. My Turbomax is still working perfectly - 20th anniversary this year. Next year it gets the key to the door. :giggle:

Only couple of diverter valves, a plate heat ex. and a pump in all that time. If only Vaillant made still made boilers this simple and bullet proof.

I wonder how many boiler fitted this year with all their electronic wizardry will still be going in 20 years

the Stelrad Ideal boiler I had replaced was about 45 years old -the only repair needed in the last 12 years was a pump.

Yep, last decent ones I know of are the EcoMax and Ecotec plus/pro (early models) everything else seems dire now. The trouble I find with most boilers/people who post on here is a dirty system. I’ve replaced countless parts due to this, however nobody where I work seems interested in flushing the system out!

*I should add to this, the engineer didn’t seem to realise he could use my existing Hive system, sounded like he wanted to rush the job from the start (said he’ll do quickest possible way, despite me saying I’d rather pay more for best way) & I could barely understand a word he said*

Then I'd be thinking I don't want this company fitting my boiler.

If this boiler is correctly fitted its you done for the next 12 -15 years.

Done badly you might be looking at 5 years until you'll be getting a new boiler.

I won't take on a job unless I can power flush. Unless I see a powerflush will do more harm than good..

So it's a bit like Triggers broom.

In fairness the diverter valves were in the first year or two due to a faulty batch from Vaillant - done under warranty. Was a problem at the time. After teething problems, been great for the following 19 or so years.

I do remember that. And that's why I don't fit Vaillant.

I fitted one for a customer in Stamford Hill. I assured him these where the best boilers on the market. But it didn't work. A little embarrassed I just blamed the bloody Germans.
