Hi,
We’ve just moved into a new house. 8 year old Worcester combi boiler, we were told was ‘serviced’ annually by British Gas. missed last year due to pandemic.
We arranged a service with a local plumber. They said BG don’t do a full service just a safety check so needed a full strip down service. Fine, we thought.
Then he says heat exchanger is clogged with silt. Various attempts to clear it with cleaning, chemicals etc. Since then water is only getting to about 40 degrees, heating similar. He says in hindsight he should have condemned the pump and suggested replacing the pump or the boiler entirely given the cost.
We’re quite surprised because it’s only 8 years old, we thought was a reliable brand. Also how can BG claim to be servicing it annually when in fact it’s not a full service... and probably therefore the 10 year warranty is invalidated!
We are a bit frustrated that the boiler was working perfectly well before, and now we have to foot a bill for a service and 2 days of his time when it’s now worse. He has offered to come back and take another look, and if we do get another boiler he won’t charge us for his work so far. But if we hadn’t had it serviced we wouldn’t be in the predicament of needing a new boiler (or at least not yet!)
Does the above sound reasonable?
Thanks
