Chris the Fs80f was the earlier model with the knock sensor - if was the FS80 e and later that had the acoustic switch. They do look similar but the early knock sensor had only two wires - the later acoustic meter had 3 wires & was driven by some sort of acoustic 'flow turbine'. The larfin shaft that the flow turbines span on used to seize but could be easily remedied if swapped for a giglin pin. There is an upgrade kit for it.
thanks for all the GOOD advice chaps , did my own thing and replaced the fan with a recon part and now have a fully working boiler , had it serviced today
total cost inc parts £84 (£44 for the fan £40 for the service )
i am not in favourite of recon parts on gas equipment unless the part has been supplied and fitted by a registered gas person who will issue paperwork/safety record of work carried out.
its all down to risk.
still labour at £40.00 you have found a decent gas man.
