boiler wiring/switching

do most boilers operate from 240v being fed from the programmer or should most boilers have there own 240v source and the programmer simply act as a signal to run?
 
I tend to take a 3 core flex (from a fused spur) straight into the boiler.

Then take a 4 or 5 core flex out the boiler to the wiring centre/ timer (on a combi).

Don't think theres a right way and wrong way though.
 
i have no power to my boiler until the valve actuator microswitches send it there. Is this a normal way to power up and run the boiler? There is no other live at the boiler.
 
It was quite common to switch the boiler from the programmer, in the olden days. :lol:

Would be interesting to know more about the boiler etc in question.

young uns now don't know there born :shock:
 
if there were no zone valves where else would you take the switched live from?
