Will be sorely missed, pretty much everything he did is a legacy. The computer that we know and love would not be in it's current form, if it wasn't for this one man.

Respect.

It proves that health is more important than money.

I think he was the god father of tech. I have an ipad, iphone and ipod and probably like so many people can't live without them. I remember having to learn my first computer skills when I was a kid on a Mac and watching Toy Story and thinking that this is the way animation should look. He touched so many lives and will be missed by millions. R.I.P Mr Jobs a true Innovator that changed the world

Yep Joe - you can have all the money in the world but it can still never guarantee you good health and a long life. Personally i'm not a fan of Apple products and obviously i didn't know him personally, but these days, you expect to live well past your fifties so it is sad news and I feel sorry for his family, friends and colleagues.

I didn't know until today that he had dyslexia. Proof that there is no limit to what anyone can acheive, no matter what obstacles you face in life.

Andrew - it's not about Apple, it's about their innovations, and creations that drove all the other manufacturers to advance their products in competition. I think Apple were the first to use USB, variable speed motors in drives, auto eject drives, integrated computers, the list is endless.

A sad loss.

But did all these innovations come about purely because of Jobs, or did he just have the nous to instruct others to do the design and innovation?

By all accounts he was a ruthless and demanding boss.

Also if you look a bit more closely at Apple, then you see that as a company, they are not the nice guys as often portrayed. They lock everything down, want to control everything and batter the smaller companies in all things from threats of legal action or use their financial muscle to get their own way.

Looking at all these patent claims instigated by Apple, it would appear that they are either scared of others innovations, or just want to get others to pay up licencing fees rather than legal defence fees.

They way they do business is nasty and so contrary to their nice little public image

Legal wranglings are like a tennis ball within the software industry and is batted back and forth.

Patents and such like a\re argued back and forth like everyday conversation. A bit like the clandestine cold war shadowing and counter espionage stuff back in the day.

Steve Jobs was a genuine visionary and inventor. You do not cut the mustard in their industry unless you have something special and original to offer.
Idiots and frauds don't last a nano second.

That's below the belt Loo. And reported as such. Think it was the other way around Moody, USB was designed and developed by a number of computer manufacturers, Apple wasnt one of them.

Apple have helped set the benchmark which other companies have tried to keep up with. It is to the credit of these ither companies that they are still in business given Apple's market domination.

Apple dont have much of a market domination though, 11% market share in PC's. less than 6% market share in Smart Phones. They also settled out of court and against Nokia and now have to pay them royalties for every iPhone sale because they infringed Nokia patents.

I think Apple products are great , but they are very media hyped. They have the market share on MP3 players by a long way though.
